Review: Tropicana Twister Soda Orange
Sep 12th, 2006 by Steve
I found a bottle of Tropicana Twister Soda Orange during a recent road trip Amy and I took. This beverage has pretty much disappeared from the Chicago area, probably due to poor sales.

It's another installment in the questionable Tropicana Twister Soda line of drinks from Pepsi, including the previously reviewed Tropicana Twister Soda Citrus. The Orange flavor came first, which is sort of obvious given the "Tropicana" name. It was somewhat intended to fill the void left by the phase-out of Orange Slice. (Mountain Dew LiveWire doesn't really count as a pure orange drink, I guess.)
The packaging has somewhat of a goofy logo, though I must admit that I really liked the contrasting orange/blue color scheme. It was somewhat… festive. The drink itself was nothing to write home about, surely not better than Orange Crush or Orange Slice… and nowhere near as good as the ethnic Fanta Pomarańczowa. It was better than Fanta Orange, however… then again, a dead rat tastes better than that vile drink.
The big claim to fame on the packaging was that Tropicana Twister Soda Orange contained 1% juice. Whoop Dee Do! It still tasted like McDonald's orange drink (much like Vault did.) The aftertaste was pretty lame as well. Overall, not an impressive orange drink by any account.
You are way off man ! This soda is 4 th in line for sales right after Pepsi,Coke and Mountain Dew. In fact, it is so popular it is almost always sold out on shelfs in Washington, Oregon, California and Idaho. Every store from Coast to Coast sells it. The taste is far better than Crush. Sorry you were not impressed, but if you talk to any store that sells it, you will find out just how popular it is.
Agree. Twister Orange and especially Grape are really good and they sell like they were about to go out of market in the next 24 hours. I personally love Grape.
Orange twister is so much better than any other orange soda on the market. Fanta has no flavor at all, and Crush tastes like pure sugar.
Personally, I think twister tastes better out of the can than out of a plastic bottle. It's usually the other way around. Either way I'm thinking the factory botched-up a batch and that's the one you tried.
Tropicana Twister Orange is the best. Unfortanely I can't seem to find it on the shelves anymore. I really wish they would bring it back. It was always sold out so I don't understand why they did away with it. Wrong move!!
I'm guessing this has been replaced by Orange Crush. Sad news. I'd rather have Twister Orange stick around. I went to a vending machine and picked a bottle of Twister and it spit out a bottle of Orange Crush. Of course I'd pick Orange Slice over Twister. I'd pick Sunkist over that. And I agree with you that I'd pick all of them over Fanta ha.
I agree that Twister Orange is by far the best orange drink out there and it was always getting sold out. I think that it tastes better in cans than plastic, too, but now it's almost impossible to find either on the west coast but it's still available in Florida and other places in the south. Being a Pepsico product it wouldn't be replaced by Orange Crush as that's a Coca Cola product.
Tropicana Twister Orange Soda IS the BEST!!! What happened??? I can't find it anymore… has it been discontinued??? Why is this happening to GOOD orange sodas – remember Minute Maid Orange? That was before Twister – and it was the BEST – then, discontinued!!! And we still have Shasta Orange (good "bite", lousy taste – as all Shasta sodas, low on flavor), Orange Crush (no "bite", ok taste), and Fanta Orange (no "bite" no taste)??? Aargg!!! Now I'm going through the painful task of trying to find a decent (almost good) orange soda… AGAIN!!!
Wow Im surprised by all of you people claiming to like Tropicana Twister Orange. The only reason that it may have seemed like it sold out anywhere is because there was never much shelf space for it, so if one person bought 2 12 packs of it, most stores would have had either an empty shelf or a 1/2 empty shelf. The top 3 selling Orange Sodas of 2008 went like this: #1 Sunkist(by far) #2 Fanta #3 Twister Orange(Sales were about 1/2 of Fantas).
As for whoever said Crush is a Coke product, that is false. It is a Dr Pepper/Snapple Group product, and Pepsi Bottling Group purchased the distribution rights in the USA last year, and have been distributing it since early 2009. It has indeed replaced Tropicana Twister Orange, and it's sales have been astonishing. It is on pace to surpass Sunkist for the top spot in 2009.
I do have good news though for you Twister Orange fans. You can still find it on tap at a good amount of Target stores, at their Food Avenue. It is not just a sticker on the fountain, but the "bag in a box" is actually Twister Orange.
I, along with most of the reviews I have read, think Tropicana Twister Orange and Grape soda was the best thing since sliced bread. I, also, have benn unable to find it on store shelves anywhere. I have reluctantly tried Orange and Grape Crush, and believe me, there is no comparison.
Tropicana Twister Orange cannot defeat timeless classics like Orange Crush/Slice. The former doesn't taste bad, but made my intestines glow and took 3 months off of my life. Good review…
Never had a better tasting drink than Tropicana Twister Orange and for the past 2 years have not been able to find it. Drank another Twister flavor for the following year and then couldn't find it either. Seems strange since every time the shelves got restocked I bought 12 – 24 cans and it was nearly sold out the same day. This company alergic to making money or something? Gotta drink Fruitopia now and isn't half as good.
WOW, REALLY TROPICANA TWISTER ORANGE WAS THE BEST OUT OF ALL THE ORANGE SODA'S AROUND WHY DID IT LEAVE IT NEEDS TO COME BACK AND I SEEN THAT ONE OF THE MESSAGES SAID IT TASTE SO GOOD IN THE CAN INSTEAD OF THE BOTTLE THAT IS SO RIGHT BRING TWISTER BACK
[...] Sierra Mist in their lineup. Part of this move was due to the commercial failure of the Tropicana Twister Soda line (Orange, Grape, Strawberry, Citrus), leaving a "fruit flavor hole" for Pepsi to compete [...]
Whatever happened to Tropicana Diet Orangeaid? It knocked my socks off it was that good. Also the Tropicana Diet Lemonaide and Tropicana Diet Pink Lemonaide was good, too, although not as good as the Orangeaid. Where did it go? I could find it anywhere, but now it's totally vanished from shelves everywhere.
Found Tropicana Orange Twister at A&W root beer stand yesterday. They also serve it at Sirloin Stockade. I love the stuff!
