In May we reported that Jones Soda had won the official beverage rights to Qwest Field, which is the home stadium to the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. This basically made the beverage the official drink of the team.
One of the announcement articles noted that…
The CEO said he’s also playing around with ideas – including “grass stain” – for a signature Seahawks flavor.
Still another mentioned that…
The company is working on a special Seahawks drink and is producing its first 20-ounce bottles to sell at the stadium and elsewhere.
It appears we now have an answer to what those references were describing.
Jones Soda has just released a limited edition Seahawks Collector Pack. It’s a box with 5 new flavors, available in a couple of locations and online. The 5 flavors are rather… interesting, to say the least:
- Natural Field Turf Soda
- Sports Cream Soda
- Perspiration Soda
- Dirt Soda
- Sweet Victory Soda
The set also comes with a “Special Edition Spirit of 12 Flag”. Apparently, the Seahawks retired the #12 as a tribute to fans being the “12th man” of support during games, so this “Spirit of 12″ thing seems to be somewhat of a local tradition.
The drinks seem to be targeted at the idea that this is what it tastes like to be in the NFL. The official Jones Soda website notes that “NFL players have spent an average of 2 years in the gym, perspired 10,000 gallons of sweat, eaten 2 pounds of grass, tasted 3 pounds of dirt, and spread over 5 gallons of sports cream on their muscle aches.” Um, nice. So now we have to drink that experience?
Of course, one of the other advantages of Jones Soda’s sponsorship of the Seahawks is that they can put player images on their beverages, which is what they did for this collection (along with facsimile signatures).
One wonders what Dirt Soda really tastes like!
For those interested, the official press release for this new collection follows. It’s interesting that they chose to highlight the Perspiration Soda in the headline…
