Update 01/06/10: Read our updated Pepsi Throwback review and updated Mountain Dew Throwback review, both featuring new designs, available for 8 weeks starting December 28, 2009.
Today we heard some great news for those of you (like us) who enjoyed Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback.
Pepsi confirmed via Facebook and Twitter that the Throwbacks will be returning for a limited 8-week run in December. Specifically, that would place the date range at December 28-February 22.
We're still pulling together additional confirmation and details, but here is what we know so far:
Thanks for all the Throwback tweets, videos, pics & pleas. We've heard you & you convinced us. And… We've got great news! Throwback is coming back!! On Dec 28th for 8 weeks. Same formula, but cooler vintage look!
From Mountain Dew's Facebook Page:
We've got some awesome news for you guys today! Mountain Dew THROWBACK is officially coming back thanks to all your feedback! It will hit stores on December 28 for eight weeks with sweet new packaging. Get ready!
From Pepsi's Twitter account:

One wonders if the "cooler vintage look", "sweet new packaging", and "awesome vintage look" will resemble the fan-favorite prototype bottle designs that were leaked back in February, but later discarded for the Throwback designs that were eventually brought to market.
As always, keep checking in here at BevReview for the latest Throwback developments. Keep up via RSS, Twitter, and Facebook.

Hey Coke, Pepsi, wake up and get a clue.
We want your drinks made with real sugar, not HFCS. We also want the option of glass bottles. Yes we will even pay more to offset the costs. It is truly baffling how you dont seem to recognize this. Atleast Pepsi, which i dont like, has somewhat caught on.
So, they listened to our pleas AGAINST the limited run, and they respond by giving us ANOTHER limited run, just later in the year? Were they really listening?
My, they're a bit exclamation point!-happy over there at the Pepsi headquarters, aren't they?
And I get the feeling they're still being supremely cautious; this is a second go-round, as it were, to see if the interest from the first round will be sustained. Gosh, c'mon already Pepsi! You know it will.
We still have 12-packs of Pepsi and Dew Throwback EVERYWHERE in the Fox Valley of Wisconsin. If you know a local, have them send you some or something.
I love the stuff and plan on stocking up when I go grocery shopping tomorrow. Hopefully I can get enough to last until after Christmas!
What I was told by a Pepsi rep is that it's easier to produce from corn syrup than cane sugar. The bottling/canning plants are all geared for CFS. It would be very expensive to switch it all over. That is unfortunate, because Pepsi would quickly make back their investment. The people want cane sugar!
Pepsi uses both HFCS AND Sugar in it's regular Pepsi drinks it shouldn't be that hard to completely switch over, much easier than Coke to switch.
At least Passover Pepsi will be back after Throwback ends again….
I've had this petition up forever hoping that Pepsico would hear us and bring it back…http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/pepsithrowback I am so happy it is coming back around. I still have a couple left, but I am running low & you can't find it anywhere here it Pittsburgh. I will be sure to stock up this time around:-)
Fantastic!
I guess the facebook posts of it coming back were true. That's sad. This junk was the nastiest stuff to ever hit the shelves since I was born, and I was glad to see it go. Why? Because it made room for more of the normal Mountain Dew on the shelves.
If you all liked it so much, why not just plow into that stuff we have now labeled under "diet". It tastes exactly the same.
Indeed, I wish Pepsi would make Throwback continously, or even change back to the natural sugar. GIve people a choice and if they want the real verses the artificial. Brign back natural sugar Pepsi. They should have cafeen free throwback as well!!!!!
I personally just buy the imported sodas in glass bottles from Mexico. Do a search for Mexican coke. I buy it at my local Costco. It comes in a 24pack of 12oz glass bottles with real cane sugar. Cost is around $18.00 for the case or around .75/bottle.
This is the soda I remember from my youth and it tastes a LOT better than the stuff in cans or plastic that you find today. There is nothing like a cold/frosty glass bottles of coke straight from the fridge. Even my kids prefer the glass bottles. They will bypass the cans and always go for my bottles when I am not looking. Grrrr.
I called my local bottler in Wisconsin and they said they will not be returning to glass for any reason. So, I told them I will just buy the real thing imported from Mexico. The guy on the other end just hung up. So much for customer service.
It seems there has been another batch of Pepsi Trowback produced. All my local stores were sold out of the first batch in mid June. The expiration date on this batch was sometime in Feb 2010. Over the last couple weeks there were at least a dozen 12 packs available at two different stores that had been sold out since mid June. The expiration date on this batch is April 2010. I haven't seen any Dew in this second batch.
So why only for another 8 weeks!? I want it for good! It puts regular mountain dew to SHAME!!!!

It has aspartame in it and will kill you over time…nuff said!

this is good news. I haven't had a Pepsi since the run of Throwback ended.
Did anyone notice this article is about PACKAGING? It doesn't mention ingredients or formula.
Great to see another release of the Throwback but I really wish they'd sell it full time. Here in the Binghamton, NY area the Pepsi throwback is still available in several supermarkets but the Mountain Dew is something I haven't seen since July. I got hooked, or should I say, rehooked on sodas with real sugar when living in San Francisco, and having the Pepsi Throwback now that I'm back east has been a real good thing.
Why only for 8 weeks? Why not for always? That would sure make me a happier person.
What stores will be carrying mountain dew throwback?
Hello Matt/Jason/Others–I could not agree with you more!! Definitely "Real Sugar" and "Glass Bottles" for both Pepsi and Coke–I agree the "THROWBACK" should be a PERMANENT CHANGE!!
Pepsi and Mountain Dew THROWBACK should be at the top of Pepsi's list for the next year. They should be on the shelf at all times. Sometimes going back to the old is a good thing.
Western NY Rite Aid jumped the gun….. I have both Mt Dew and Pepsi Throwback in 12 oz cans!!! They alos had Mt Dew in 2 liters
I am from southwest ohio and i can't find it anywhere:( If ya know where i can find some please let me know!!! Fiance is craving some.. lol
I found Pepsi throwback, Mountain Dew Throwback and Heritage Dr Pepper in Kmart in 20 ounce plastic bottles. I saw a pepsi delivery man at Meijer and he said he had the plastic bottles but the cases are still in transit. I checked all my local stores today and no cases yet.
I WAS a Coke drinker, now I drink PEPSI THROWBACK. (I STILL HAVE 15 cases from this summer that dont expire til Feb!) I picked up some sugared coke in Canada (no HFCS for our friends to the North, lucky them) and I can honestly say I like them BOTH but I give the edge to Pepsi with sugar. I cant believe I am saying that, but I am. Pepsi should bring it back and advertise the HECK out of it, they finally would give COKE a run for their money. I think its a gamble they should take seriously. Bring back the Pepsi challenge but this time challenge Pepsi Throwback against HFCS Coke. Wake up Corporate folks at PEPSI, THE MARKET IS TALKING TO YOU. Don't pass up this opportunity….SEIZE IT!
Christy – I looked for months and never found it last time around, but I just found where to buy it here in SW Ohio… Discount Drug Mart! Picked up 4 packages tonight, 2 Dr. Pepper, and one each of Pepsi and Dew. And it's even on sale this week, only $3/12pk.
The December version of Mountain Dew Throwback sucks!!!!!
If you look at the labels all Pepsi did whas replace HFCS with "Real Suger." The Throwback from April was the Best. No concentrated orange juice, sodium citrate… Which gave it a smoother taste.
I bought an 18 pack at Costco on January 12th . It actually sucks and isn't the same formula used in April of 2009.
Just when the had it down , they change it to an over sweetend disaster. Just a warning to those that loved the April Edition that this is not the real thing (no pun intended)
Looks like I have to go back to Mexican Coke !
Disappointed
Allan
still have a case of the april throwback in the fridge.. also preferred it to the december throwback with the orange juice…. current version tastes more similar to HFCS mountain dew though.. maybe diet mountain dew…
The December ver of PEPSI throwback was not up to the standards they released last time…….. sorry I thought it tasted terrible. I loved it the first time they released it.
