Is this the new Mountain Dew Throwback design?

Update 11/27/09: Pepsi has confirmed that these new Pepsi & Mountain Dew label designs (including the Dew version seen below) will be used in December's rerelease of Throwback for 8 weeks starting December 28
In our August 10 story regarding the return of Pepsi Throwback & Mountain Dew Throwback, it was noted that while the drinks would be returning for another 8-week run, the packaging would be changing. Phrases such as "cooler vintage look", "sweet new packaging", and "awesome vintage look" were posted by Pepsi via Twitter and Facebook.
The above speculated image of the new Mountain Dew Throwback packaging has been making the rounds on the 'net, posted over in the BevNet forums and then tweeted by the kind folks at Beverage Digest.
While we have not yet been able to confirm this image with Pepsi (so take it with a grain of salt), it is an interesting departure from the Mountain Dew Throwback packaging that debuted in April. It also is nothing like the prototype bottle designs that were leaked in February.
The iconography harkens back to Mountain Dew designs that used a hillbilly character ("Mountain Man") to promote the drink, mentioning such phrases as "It'll Tickle yore innards!" You can see this character in use on vintage 1960's cans over on USASoda.com.
Also of interest is the phrase "Made with real sugar", which is a departure from the phrase used on both Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback: "Made with natural sugar". Interestingly, the "real sugar" line was used on the prototype bottle designs.
Still no word on what the new Pepsi Throwback design will look like, but stay tuned. Remember that these drinks return December 28-February 22!
Update 9/11/09: Pepsi has confirmed that this Mountain Dew bottle image is going to be used in December's rerelease of Throwback. Quote from Nicole Bradley of Pepsi-Cola North America Beverages: "I can confirm that the image you have is correct."

I like this design a lot!
this is interesting and shockingly unattractive
there's a reason they changed the logo
i don't think that just for the sake of being retro they should purposely make their bottle look like crap
thanks for the information
Funny thing, I just stopped the Pepsi guy at the store this week after I saw Mountain Dew Throwbacks on his cart. He said they had just got some more in. So I took 5 cases off his hands. I guess the April Throwbacks are still out there.
That's one of three options Pepsi presented members of DEW labs.
Interestingly, that's the only new design.
The other two options were the April Throwback and the prototype designs, which you probably unknowingly overlooked, since they're familiar.
I didn't vote for that one, because as cool as it is, Mountain Dew didn't have the taste that Throwback is aiming for when it had that logo.
lame idea. unlike Pepsi Throwback, the Mountain Dew design was actually pretty good.
This sucks! I really like the original Mountain Dew throwback design that they came out with. I still have about 4 cans, I haven't been able to find any in a long time though. It reminds me of the 70's-80's cans. I hope they don't go with this "new" old one.
While I personally think that the 70's-80's logo is the best out of all the mountain dew logos past and present, I would be very happy if they used the hillbilly logo from the 60's. We already had the chance to buy the 70's-80's style cans, this is something new and I've always liked the whole "It'll tickle yore innards" slogan with the hillbillies, it gives the name "mountain dew" more meaning. Its also the original logo, so you can't get more retro than that. I definitely hope they go with this design. Of course, the next and ultimate step would be mountain dew in glass bottles.
I have the vaguest memory of an old "mountaineer" type bottle that lived in my garage as a kid. It had a hillbilly type asleep under a tree, I think, with a straw hat… Wait, I'm confusing it with the Kickapoo Joy Juice I have now, I think.
It was this: http://homepage.mac.com/catservants/iblog/C755781129/E20060430212615/Media/Mountain%20Dew%20old%20bottle%20180X343.jpg
I like the older fashioned bottles, they have a real class in their unclassiness, though the bottle in this post makes me a little nervous. All that white bespeaks the discount brand no-ads food of my childhood.
The design is nice, but the colors are wrong. I would have gone with a green label with drawings in white, reversing the above.
A white label shouts "DIET", and a lot of customers won't reach for this.
I love the "Hillbilly" design. I've thought for years they should put it out in glass bottles with this design. COOL!
I love the new Mountain Dew and Pepsi throwback designs. The taste along with the logos took me back a much to my carefree teenage days. Now, I wish they would put the pop back in glass bottles!! 2 thumbs up!
