Let’s hear it for racial stereotyping in the Star Wars prequels! Nute Gunray and the rest of the Neimoidians had an interesting dialect. I mean, who doesn’t love a little “Engrish” with your space opera, right? But let’s forget the character and review the can! #23 Nute Gunray was odd… which is fitting, since he found himself on a Pepsi One can.
During the 1999 Pepsi/Star Wars promotion, there were 4 different Pepsi One cans represented (not including bonus versions). We’ve already taken a look at the first two, #21 Chancellor Valorum and #22 C-3PO.
Here’s the official bio on this can:
As a pawn to Darth Sidious, this Trade Federation Viceroy oversees the invasion of Naboo and is surprised at the power of resistance he meets.
The secret word found on the can was Clouded.
Like the other Pepsi One cans in this series, the background color is silver, with the image of the character superimposed in black/white. The overall feeling is “metalic”, with only the red/white/blue of the Pepsi logo to add color to the mix.
“As you know, our blockade of Pepsi One is perfectly legal and we’d be happy to receive the ambassadors.”
