Jabba the Hutt is one of the familiar characters from the Original Trilogy that appeared in the Prequel Trilogy. First seen in Return of the Jedi (or for you Special Edition fans out there, A New Hope), he went completely CGI for his appearance in The Phantom Menace. What he actually did is debatable, other than knocking some poor helpless creature off a ledge to start a podrace. However, it’s nice to see a familiar face, and today he is showcased on the #5 Jabba the Hutt Pepsi can.
During the 1999 Pepsi/Star Wars promotion, there were 8 different Pepsi cans represented (not including bonus versions). We’ve already taken a look at the first four: #1 Anakin Skywalker, #2 Sebulba, #3 Qui-Gon Jinn, and #4 Watto. Like these previous cans, Jabba the Hutt continues the trend of Pepsi-branded cans featuring characters that have something to do with the Tatooine.
Here’s the official bio on this can:
Jabba the Hutt
Enormous in size and ego, this combative Hutt is the host of the dangerous Boonta Eve Podraces in Mos Espa. With him greed is a powerful ally.
The secret word found on the can was Their.
Like other Pepsi cans in this series, the background color is blue with silver starts dotted throughout, standing behind the character image superimposed in black/white. It’s nice to see a traditional character show up on a Pepsi can.
“Mmmmmm. Uga. Spasteelia a bunkadunka. Race a spuce adoobla Pepsi!”
