Sometimes a simple change converts a drink experience into something memorable. In the case of Dang! Butterscotch Root Beer, who would have thought adding butterscotch flavor to root beer would be so awesome?

Dang! Butterscotch Root Beer

Dang! is made by Imperial Flavors Beverage Company of Milwaukee, WI, “a family owned and operated business that has been involved in the beverage industry for 45 years.” It comes in a 12 oz. retro brown glass bottle, complete with real bottle cap and paper label. The orange logo proclaims “Dang! That’s Good,” with the product line consisting of Root Beer, Diet Root Beer, and the aforementioned Butterscotch Root Beer we are reviewing.

Pop the cap and you are greeted with a pleasant root beer scent that is accented by a creamy butterscotch aroma. The taste leans to a sweeter root beer with hardly any bitterness. It’s a clean, traditional taste that doesn’t break from any preconceived notions of flavor. The use of sugar keeps the taste clean.

The real difference in this beverage comes in the middle of the flavor experience. Here the caramel-creamy butterscotch flavor really kicks in and and… wow, this is good stuff! This buttery, sweet addition rides out the aftertaste quite well, combining with the core root beer flavor for a very pleasant mouthfeel.

Here’s an excellent example where the name on the bottle clearly matches this stuff inside. Highly recommended!
