Review: Dad’s Red Cream Soda

It’s time to continue our journey though the cream soda lineup offered by Dad’s Root Beer. We’ve already experienced Regular Cream Soda (so so) and Orange Cream Soda (quite good). It’s time for Dad’s Red Cream Soda!

Dad's Red Cream Soda

Dad’s Red Cream Soda

Available in a standard 20 oz PET bottle, the label is red in color, with a yellow/blue/red “Dad’s Old Fashioned Red Cream Soda” logo. A callout also denotes that this drink is “Caffeine Free.” The drink itself is bright red in color, much like fruit punch.

Upon unscrewing the cap, you sense a familiar smell… exactly what it is took me a while to figure out. But in the end, it smells a lot like Big Red, which if you remember, we said tasted a lot like a red cream soda. Very artificial in scent. The comparison continues to the taste, as the flavor of Dad’s Red Cream Soda is pretty much a smoother take on Big Red. There’s a bubble gum-ish aspect there, along with a very sweet, syrupy creaminess. I’m not usually a fan of the red cream soda genre… and this continues to support my bias. For fans of this style of drink, however, it’s an average installment, utilizing high fructose corn syrup as the sweetener and a rather mellow taste.
