Review: Arizona Cherry Lime Rickey

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Arizona Beverages hosted a contest to come up with a new limited edition flavor, complete with a unique name and design. The result is Arizona Cherry Lime Rickey, available exclusively at 7-Eleven.

Arizona Cherry Lime Rickey

A "Rickey" is generally considered a base alcoholic spirit, combined with lime and carbonated water. Arizona's version is a light, non-alcoholic carbonated beverage that has a nice cherry flavor start, followed by a lime finish. It reminded me a lot of Hansen's Strawberry Kiwi in overall structure (or maybe a bit like the limited time Sierra Mist Strawberry Kiwi Splash), but with cherry replacing the strawberry flavor.

Can you tell it's from Arizona?

The drink is red/pink in color – and translucent, with a notable cherry scent. It's light and bubbly, with a high level of sweetness, derived from high fructose corn syrup, with a tiny addition of sucralose and Ace-K (acesulfame potassium) to cut down on the calories. I really didn't note the artificial sweeteners when sampling.

The can design was created by Kenny Vidinich, who was the winner of the crowd-sourced contest. It's a bright pink and lime green design, which to be honest, is a bit hard to read when it comes to the flavor name (which is helped by clear text on the bottom of the can denoting that this is a "Sparkling Cherry Lime"). The can also contains a QR Code as part of a contest, as well as a classy white top (in contrast to the standard metallic look).

Overall, this is a refreshing drink in a distinctive can. It's a bummer that it can only be found at 7-Eleven, as I think many more would be interested in sampling the beverage, but will be limited due to distribution (though there are 6,700+ stores in the U.S.) If you find it, it's a tasty "rickey" to try!

I just tried this based on your review. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I liked the price point (.99 cents for 23.5oz – which is 3 servings). I don't like the HFCS or Ace-K but I agree that I couldn't really taste the Ace-K at all. I assume they use both for low-calorie/low-aftertaste? The flavor was good and refreshing. I was sitting in the 85* sun at the park and it was nice and refreshing, until it got warm but that's the sun's fault. I only finished 1/3 of it. It would pair nicely with…vodka maybe?

  2. Where can I find one of these in Houston?

  3. Made the mistake of buying this. After the first sip I was thinking , what is wrong with this stuff

Then a quick check on the ingredients list showed that it has artificial sweetener in it. Yuck!
No indication whatsoever on the front of the labe;. No "Diet" or "Lite" or anything/ Honestly this should be illegal

  4. Tried this off canteen truck at work,i was surprised how much i enjoyed this beverage i would normally never be drawn to items like this. I now find myself searching for somewhere to make larger purchases , 7 eleven it is then!

I found this at Roberts Market. Exclusive to 7-11 my @$$

  6. charlee, Cherry Lime was launched as an exclusive (as this article written in October 2012 noted). However, with the extension of the Lime Rickey lineup in 2013, availability has been expanded for these flavors.

I first tried one a few months ago and have been drinking them all summer. It is a pretty good thirst quencher and overall has a pretty sweet taste and the sparkle helps distribute the flavor in your mouth. I wonder how this would be a few shots of vodka in it? Hmmmmmmm.

  8. Are they in South Carolina near the upstate area or even North Carolina (Charlotte)
