Mike Burns, Co-Founder of CanMuseum.com, explores a Halloween can that doesn’t get talked about much these days.
Years before Batman and the Batman logo graced the design of Mountain Dew cans, they released a Halloween can that featured bats.
The 2009 Mountain Dew Halloween Bat can has a black background with the “Mtn Dew” logo, which first appeared one year earlier on October 15, 2008.
There is a Dew-colored green moon protruding behind the top of the logo and many bats. The bats are all hanging upside-down in the air. Oddly enough, their feet aren’t attached to anything, so I wonder how they can remain hanging there. Also, they all have eerie green eyes and their wings are folded at their sides.
Mountain Dew fans are extremely devoted to the drink. There is even a Dew Labs in which a select group of invite-only Mountain Dew fans can share photos, ideas, and sometimes can test-market new Dew flavors.
With all of the Mountain Dew hype, I find it strange that I haven’t seen the 2009 Mountain Dew Halloween Bat can as being very common or talked about on the web. However, it is a very well designed can and a highlight of my collection because of its rarity.
