Back in October, Arizona announced a 5th line extension to their Golden Bear Lemonade lineup… Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear Lemonade with Mint. This follows the release of Honey with Ginseng, Strawberry, Mango, and 10 Calorie Honey with Ginseng. Wait, a lemonade with mint? That sounds… weird. Thankfully, it’s also pretty awesome.
Like the rest of the Golden Bear lineup, this flavor comes in the iconic Arizona 23 oz aluminum cans. It retains the Jack Nicklaus branding we’ve seen in the other flavors, but this time the color scheme shifts to a green and brown motif. The top lip of the can clearly proclaims “Mint” as the flavor, along with showing graphical representations of mint leaves. Also like the other main flavors, this drink is primarily sweetened with high fructose corn syrup, with just a tad bit of sucralose and acesulfame potassium (Ace-K) thrown in to help cut the calorie count. After opening the can, there’s a very sweet lemon scent. You don’t detect the mint right away. Color is light yellow, similar to what you’d find in other lemonade drinks.
Now, I’ll say it right now… this is my new favorite flavor in the Jack Nicklaus lineup. When I first heard that there was going to be a “Mint Lemonade,” I scratched my head. But it really works in this drink. Think lemonade with just a sprig of mint leaf added! This creates a refreshing flavor that smooths over the “bite” typically associated with this type of beverage. As this lineup also uses honey to sweeten the drinks, it becomes a very “quenchable” solution for those in thirst. The mint flavor is notable mostly on the finish of the drink, and creates a pleasant, cooling feeling into the aftertaste. Why aren’t more lemonades flavored like this? With 10% juice as part of the mix, this flavor gets a big thumbs up!
