Can Holiday: Frog Jumping Day – May 13

Origin

Unknown, however, it is said that origins of this day stem from Mark Twain’s “Jim Smiley and his Jumping Frog”, which was published in 1865 as his first short story.

How to Celebrate

Frog Jumping Day is a good day to jump like a frog. It’s probably been years since you did this and I bet you can’t remember when that was. So grab a couple of co-workers and play leap frog. If that is too much excitement for you, watch The Muppets with Kermit the Frog. For you bookworms, check our Arnold Lobel’s “Frog and Toad are Friends” or go with Mark Twain’s classic, “Jim Smiley and his Jumping Frog”, which was also released as “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” and was also released as “The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”.

1993 Pepsi Barking Treefrog Can

To celebrate this day, we selected the 1993 Pepsi Barking Treefrog Can. This can features a picture of a Barking Treefrog and its purpose was to raise awareness that it was on the Endangered Species list in Maryland. The main text on the can reads, “The Barking Treefrog, typically larger and more spotted than other treefrogs is protected as an Endangered Species in Maryland.” Below that in larger red text, it says, “Help Protect Delmarva’s Endangered & Threatened Wildlife”.

Happy Frog Jumping Day (5/13)!
