Peace Officers Memorial Day began when Congress asked President John F. Kennedy to sign the bill to dedicate May 15 to pay tribute to local, state and federal law enforcement officers. President Kennedy signed the bill into law on October 1, 1962. In 1994, President Clinton amended this law to direct that the United States flag be flown at half-staff on this day.
How to Celebrate
Today is a good day to thank a law enforcement officer today for having the dedication and courage to serve and protect us from crime. They put their lives on the line for us every day and rarely get the respect they deserve. You should also take a few moments to remember those who have fallen in the line of duty. If you are in the Washington, D.C. area, visit the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall.
To celebrate this day, we selected the 1998 Grolsch Beer Copland Can from their “Master Movie” set. On this can is the poster for the film Copland, starring Sylvester Stallone, Harvey Keitel, Ray Liota and Robert DeNiro.
Happy Peace Officers Memorial Day (5/15)!
