By replacing the "fake syrupy flavor" of the original Supernova, artificially-sweetened Diet Mountain Dew Supernova is actually an improvement in flavor profiles vs. its HFCS predecessor. It offers a refreshing, yet mellow, fruity Dew. One wonders if it would cannibalize sales of Diet Code Red, however.

If you are looking to cut your calories but like the flavor of Mountain Dew Voltage, this citrus berry version of Dew is worth picking up. It's a welcome addition to a Diet Dew line that we expect to see growth from in the coming years based on Pepsi's sales numbers.

Mountain Dew Pitch Black returns in 2011 for a limited time as part of a new "Back By Popular DEW-mand" program the folks at PepsiCo. It's slated to be released for 8 weeks starting in May 2011.

Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback will return for a 4th limited time run starting at the "end of February/early March 2011," per a conversation with Pepsi's corporate offices. Officially a 8-week run, however the "Limited Time Only" tag has been removed, indicating a possible release extension.

Started in 2009, this second iteration of DEWmocracy produced three finalists by which America could vote upon. The winner is Mountain Dew White Out, the oddly white-colored, mildly citrus-infused flavor of the bunch.

Mountain Dew Typhoon is the most commercially viable of the DEWmocracy 2 flavors… if it wasn't colored red and easily confused with Dew Code Red. The edgy, fruit punch quality delivers a distinctive pineapple-infused taste that currently is not found in the Dew lineup. We still prefer Mountain Dew White Out among the 3 flavors, but Typhoon has the most sales potential.

Mountain Dew White Out is not awesome. But it's not too bad either. The soapy dishwater-colored flavor is light, citrusy, and mellow… but those characteristics are probably what will lead to its demise. Think of a combination of Squirt, Mello Yello, and perhaps a sugar-infused Fresca with caffeine. However, as a DEWmocracy 2 flavor, White Out is just not unique enough to be considered something that the marketplace will support alongside the other Mtn Dew options. It's safe. It's bland. It's underwhelming.
